FILMMAKING PROGRAM - COURSE CURRICULUM 

Each course at Free Royalty Academy is designed to provide hands-on training with 21st-century filmmaking equipment, ensuring students are industry-ready with the latest tools and techniques in modern storytelling.

Fundamentals of Production

The Fundamentals of Production course provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the filmmaking process, covering key industry roles, set operations, and essential technical knowledge. Students will learn about crew positions, including Grip & Electric (G&E), Key Grip, Gaffer, Production Design, and Wardrobe, gaining hands-on experience in set construction, lighting, and scene composition. This course establishes a strong foundation in the logistics and teamwork required to execute a successful production, preparing students for specialized roles in film and television.

Screenwriting & Development

The Screenwriting & Development course equips students with the skills to craft compelling stories for film, television, and digital media. Covering creative writing, script structure, character development, and dialogue, students will learn how to bring their ideas to life. Specialized courses in writing for reality TV and documentary storytelling provide insight into unscripted content creation. Through hands-on exercises, script workshops, and professional feedback, students will develop the storytelling techniques needed to create engaging and marketable screenplays.

Production  & Production Management

The Producing & Production Management curriculum teaches students the essential skills needed to oversee and manage film and television productions from start to finish. Covering budgeting, scheduling, line producing, production coordination, and distribution strategies, students will learn how to navigate the business side of filmmaking. This course also explores film financing, marketing, and branding, ensuring graduates are equipped to successfully produce and launch their own projects. Through real-world case studies and hands-on experience, students will develop the leadership and organizational skills necessary to run efficient and successful productions.

Directing

The Directing curriculum at Free Royalty Academy prepares students to become visionary filmmakers by mastering the art of visual storytelling, scene composition, and working with actors and crew. Students will gain hands-on experience in directing techniques, casting, blocking, and multi-camera directing for various formats, including film, television, reality shows, commercials, music videos, and interviews. Through immersive training, industry mentorship, and real-world set simulations, aspiring directors will learn how to bring their creative vision to life while effectively managing a production.

The Cinematography & Camera Operations curriculum trains students in the technical and artistic aspects of visual storytelling. Covering camera techniques, lighting setups, composition, and movement, students will learn how to create cinematic images using industry-standard equipment. This course explores camera crew roles, including Director of Photography (DP), Camera Operator, 1st AC, 2nd AC, Gaffer, and Key Grip, as well as hands-on training with dollys, jibs, gimbals, Steadicams, and LED volume virtual production technology. Through real-world projects, students will develop the skills needed to capture compelling visuals that enhance storytelling.

FILMMAKING COURSE FOR KIDS & TEENS

Free Royalty Academy offers exciting and immersive Filmmaking Workshops designed specifically for kids and teens who are passionate about storytelling and filmmaking. These hands-on workshops introduce young creators to the fundamentals of directing, cinematography, screenwriting, and editing in a fun and engaging environment. Students will learn how to operate cameras, set up lighting, write scripts, and edit their own short films using industry-standard tools—but in a simplified, age-appropriate format. Through collaborative projects and real-world exercises, young filmmakers will gain confidence, creativity, and technical skills, preparing them for future success in the world of film and media.
